To meet your specific needs, we will work with you on creating and advocating for your agenda. You don't know what you don't know, and we will assist you in asking the right questions. We have over 100 years of special education, direct service, and therapeutic experiences in a variety of settings:
• Public and private day schools
• Boarding and residential school settings
• Residential psychiatric treatment programs
• Federally funded pre-vocational programs for adjudicated youth
• A university pre-vocational lab school
• Co-founded special needs day school
For over twenty-five years, we worked, developed, and headed a junior high and high school boarding program for students with learning disabilities and an adult transition program focusing on independent living, employment, and advanced education. In addition, we received funding and partnered with a university's medical school to facilitate MRI research and provided multi-disciplinary training /internship programs for a consortium of universities. We have networked around the world with professional researchers and established a process of testing international students overseas. We come with access to a network of professionals with various levels of expertise. We will be the conduit to access the information and services you need.
We have experience in admissions, reviewing psycho-educational testing, navigating the IEP process, and working with a network of programs that can provide access to services in specialized settings.
We have an experienced Speech and Language Pathologist who specialized in working with individuals ranging from ages eleven to thirty-two, diagnosed with LD, ADD/ADHD, Autism, and other co-existing disorders. Sessions are targeted for high school, and adult transitions specifically focused on functional language, specifically pragmatic language, problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and effective communication skills within the academic, vocational, and social settings. Parent education and direct service training will be available.

Donna Collins taught for over 20 years in both public and private schools grades 1-9. She was both a regular educator and a special educator. She worked with adolescents in an alternative adult program for parolees in transition to society. Donna worked with adults transitioning to independence from a vocational rehabilitation program and presented at the International Learning Disabilities Association on Literacy. She later became Admissions Director at a boarding school for secondary and college transition students. In the role of Admissions Director, Donna reviewed all diagnostic testing, reports, and familial data that she used in advising families of their options for seeking the appropriate services for their children or young adults. Her leadership role was within and outside the school. She served on the Board of Directors for the Small Boarding School Association and developed relationships and support among other small boarding schools. Her expertise in determining the right fit for families and programs allowed her to never turn away a desperate family in search of help. Her network of professional, clinical, and consulting individuals allowed her to direct parents to the resources they needed. She was frequently informing parents of their child's right to free and appropriate education and would refer them to the appropriate legal counsel and the role of due process. Advocacy became her middle name, and she became rooted in the mantra, "you never turn a parent away without a path to follow."

We customize our training according to your needs. The following outline of proposed classes is broken into developmental levels of age and milestones. There are four levels for age and grades from birth through twenty-two.
The first level of information addresses accessing services for children with special needs from birth through high school. The second level of information focuses on transitioning from high school to college, pre-vocational training, and/or employability training. Individuals transitioning into adulthood need to be in control and master skills designed to be successful, safe, and independent. The third level would be providing ongoing coaching for parents throughout the process of advocating for your child. The fourth level is a work in progress and will contain training for parents to coach parents.
The responses we receive from you as parents and young adults will dictate how we prioritize/customize how we build our goals, objectives, and content.
We are accepting new clients and families. Contact us for more details about scheduling customized sessions on various topics, including family dynamics, adult transitions, and communication breakdowns. Our first online meeting is always free so that we can develop a rapport and a plan forward.
Our newsletters and resource page is designed to offer support for families sharing your experience.
Currently, we are working with clients through virtual meetings. We are in the process of developing video training and seminars. We would love to feature your thoughts and insights in our newsletter. Eventually, we would like to have parents coaching parents.
